THIRTY030
Thirty030 is an initiative in Utrecht that offers young residents between the ages of 18 and 30 the opportunity to become city ambassadors. As a city ambassador, you collaborate with others to make the city more creative, inclusive, sustainable, and fun. The ambassadors contribute by organizing projects and events, participating in discussions on urban development issues, and making their voices heard in public debates and initiatives. The group leads various creative campaigns and encourages young people to step outside their comfort zone and contribute to the city’s growth.
The role of a city ambassador is flexible and provides plenty of opportunities for personal development, such as improving presentation skills and launching independent initiatives. Diversity is a key focus, and anyone living in Utrecht, regardless of background, is welcome to apply.
The story behind the artwork
In the Framboosstraat, there is a strong sense of community. The residents know each other well, and everyone stays easily connected through the neighborhood app.
Since the street is part of a larger “fruit neighborhood,” we chose to depict various types of fruit on the utility box. The message behind this is: “No matter what kind of fruit you are, you’re warmly welcomed in the Framboosstraat!” This symbolizes the essence of our neighborhood: diversity and unity. Everyone is accepted here, regardless of their background, creating a close-knit community where people support one another and keep the neighborhood lively.
There are also two dachshunds living on the street, so a little dachshund has been painted as well—right at eye level! So, there’s an extra dachshund in the neighborhood 😉
How did the painting go?
The painting was a lot of fun, and you could really feel the sense of community. For instance, we were offered tea, and the neighbor across the street was busy helping another neighbor create a front yard garden. Additionally, some children living in the “fruit neighborhood” joined in to help with varnishing the utility box.
